Announcing the "Make an offer" feature

Unlocking name liquidity on Namebase

When we first launched Namebase Marketplace, we were excited about the unique liquidity it would unlock for domains. Secondary marketplaces do an excellent job at providing a price for otherwise illiquid assets. On the road to the mass adoption of Handshake, we want to ensure every Namer is able to derive value from their domains.

For that reason, we're excited to launch our new Make an offer feature.

How it works

Make an offer allows anyone, regardless of when you discovered Handshake, the opportunity to own your own domain name. To access it, simply click in to any domain that's already been registered, regardless of whether it's listed on the marketplace. The Make an offer feature should be sitting just to the right of the add to watchlist button.

Every domain has the feature turned on by default. If you visit a domain and the Make an offer box is not available, that means the owner has manually turned off the feature in their domain settings. If you're an owner looking to turn off the feature, you can do so from your Domain Manager.

Anyone is able to make an offer on a domain with the feature enabled, at which point owners are able to counteroffer. Every offer and counteroffer has a shelf life of 7 days for the other person to respond.

We know many of you have had your eyes on domains that haven't made their way to the marketplace. We hope this enables you to finally grab that domain you might have missed out on, and own your piece of the new Internet.
